Welcome to Twentynine Palms, gateway to Joshua Tree National Park and home to Chuck’s Cabin and Harmonic House.

Hi, my name is “Ash” Maharaj, and I am the proud property manager and host of these desert vacation homes.

Originally from South Africa and of East Indian heritage, I emigrated to the United States more than twenty years ago. Starting a new life on another continent brought many challenges. It also brought a significant change in my professional career. Before leaving South Africa, my experience included teaching, corporate training, and management consulting.

From South Africa to the California Desert

I consider myself fortunate to come from a family of entrepreneurs. From childhood, I learned about the rewards and responsibilities of owning a small business. I watched my mother, grandparents, and uncles build and operate successful businesses in South Africa.

Twentynine Palms is Where I Chose to Become an Entrepreneur

I was drawn to this desert community, where beautiful murals tell the stories of its history and pioneering spirit. As a woman who moved from one continent to another and created a new life and career, that pioneering spirit has always resonated with me.

Your Local Joshua Tree Vacation Rental Host

As your Joshua Tree vacation rental host, I am delighted when guests choose Chuck’s Cabin or Harmonic House for a vacation, desert getaway, or work stay. My goal is simple: to provide a comfortable and relaxing stay in a peaceful desert setting.

For the past 22 years, I have worked primarily in hospitality in Twentynine Palms. During that time, I have developed a deep connection to the community, the High Desert, and the visitors who come here to experience this remarkable destination.

My professional experience in the region also extends beyond hospitality. I am a licensed Real Estate Associate Brokerwith 15 years of experience in residential and commercial real estate. I have served clients throughout the High Desert and Greater Palm Springs area. This work has broadened my knowledge and appreciation of our desert communities and the unique character of the region.

Community involvement has also been an important part of my life in Twentynine Palms. For seven years, I served as a founding board member of the Twentynine Palms Tourism Business Improvement District. Previously, I served as a board member of the Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District Foundation. My community involvement also included serving as a steering committee member for the Joshua Tree Art Exposition.

Through my years in hospitality, real estate, tourism, and community involvement, I have developed a strong connection to the High Desert. I continue to support responsible tourism and sustainability practices. These efforts help preserve the character and natural beauty of the desert for residents and visitors alike.

A Peaceful High Desert Stay

Both vacation homes reflect the warmth and character of Southwestern desert living. The properties feature private nature trails and outdoor spaces for enjoying beautiful desert sunrises, wildlife, peaceful surroundings, and spectacular nighttime stargazing.

Respect for our neighbors and their peace and privacy is also important to me. For this reason, the vacation homes are not suitable for parties, large gatherings, or activities that disturb the surrounding residential community. Off-road vehicles may not be operated on the properties or within neighboring residential areas.

As your host and property manager, I am proud to have created peaceful desert retreats where guests can slow down and reconnect with nature. Our vacation homes also provide a comfortable base for exploring Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, and the Mojave Desert.
